Give yourself grace
Mom life is hard. Actually it’s the hardest. It is physically and mentally exhausting. And there are no breaks. That’s one of the most difficult parts...there is no “unplugging” from motherhood...not even to sleep.
There is the stress of physically caring for them, not to mention yourself and sometimes your husband, and keeping them healthy and alive. But then there is the guilt.
Mom guilt...
When you’re not perfect...
And you know that no mom is perfect and no mom can do everything all the time. You tell yourself this and that you should give yourself grace, but the guilt creeps in anyway.
And that was before this pandemic came and crashed all of our parties. So mom life was already at a level 10 difficulty...so WTH is this!?!?! Like we’re supposed to keep it together through this!?!?
Well we will get through it, but not without forgiving ourselves freely. Give yourself grace.
Your kids will be perfectly fine if you are not perfect. Give yourself grace.
Your kids have had enough screen time this week to last a lifetime? Give yourself grace.
For the fourth day in a row, your supper is out of a box? Give yourself grace.
A bawling kid came busting through the door during your Zoom meeting when you were sure you had locked it? Give yourself grace.
You lost it and yelled AGAIN? Give yourself grace.
Your kid’s teacher emailed to ask if he was done with the social studies assignment from last week and you thought you had double checked it was all turned in? Give yourself grace.
Your side hustle that you have worked on for a year that was finally gaining traction came to a screaming halt because your time is now spent caring for and educating your minions and you’re angry and frustrated? Give yourself grace.
The house is a pigsty and you haven’t had clean socks for two weeks? Give yourself grace.
You had every intention of waking up before the kids and working out each morning and it only happened twice? Give yourself grace.
Despite your best efforts, a kid ran down the hall yelling for dad when dad has asked you to keep the kids quiet so he can work? Give yourself grace.
Feeling a tinge of jealousy at the social media posts involving puzzles and reading and elaborate trick shots? Ain’t nobody got time for that! It’s ok. Give yourself grace.
It’s 4:00 and everyone’s still in their pajamas? Give yourself grace.
Loved the idea of “working from home” until you realized it’s actually impossible to get anything done? Give yourself grace.
This pandemic is affecting all of us in different ways, so whatever you’re going through, talk to another mom or friend or your own mom for support.
And give yourself grace.
